ShoreMaster/Galva-Foam Floating Docks Benefit Bay Pointe Marina

Marina World July/August 2003

Marblehead, Ohio - Newly installed floating docks will alleviate the frustration of fluctuating water levels at Bay Point Marina Resort on Lake Erie. Completed in December the project's first phase converted 180 slips from fixed piers to a ShoreMaster/Galva-Foam pile-anchored floating dock system with a galvanized steel frame and concrete decking.

A picturesque resort on its own 180-acre peninsula, Bay Pointe is one of Lake Erie's largest marinas, harboring more than 780 boats. Known since 1941 for its sandy beaches and natural setting, Baypoint suffered from changing water levels that varied the distance between boats and the fixed docks. Tenants had faced boarding problems as their vessels sank below the slips.

Although the resort has its own dredge to maintain water depths, this had no effect on the water's ebb and flow. Bay Point General Manager Brooke Brown says, "Over the years we realized we needed to address the issue of the fluctuating lake levels in our marina." ShoreMaster/Galva-Foam's pile-anchored system allows the marina's docks to remain level with the members' boats to accommodate a range of environmental conditions.
