ShoreMaster Bridge Specifications Text

1.0 GENERAL

1.1 The specifications are for a fully engineered clear span bridge of welded aluminum extrusions. Bridge shall be designed by ShoreMaster, Inc. located at #1 ShoreMaster Drive, Fergus Falls, MN 56537; telephone 1-800-328-8945.

2.0 BRIDGE DEMENSIONS

2.1 Length: Length of clear span shall be __________ feet __________ inches.

2.2 Width: Interior clear width between structural members shall be __________feet and __________inches.

2.3 Camber: Bridge camber shall be _____% of overall clear span length or be_________ feet __________inches in height at bridge center.

3.0 Design Load Criteria

3.1 Dead Load: The dead load of the bridge shall be determined and be included in the structural analysis.

3.2  Uniform live load shall be based upon the type of use expected. Typically, residential or light use bridges shall de designed for a uniform live load of 60psf. Commercial use bridges or heavily used public bridges shall be designed for a minimum live load of 85psf. Special loading such as: golf carts, industrial conveyors, piping shall be considered in the structural analysis.

3.3 Wind Loads: Bridge structure shall be designed to resist all horizontal and up lift forces caused by wind.

3.4 Structural Design: Design of the bridge shall be in accordance with “Specifications and Guidelines for Aluminum Structures” published by the Aluminum Association. Only experienced professional engineers shall perform structural analysis of bridges.

3.5 Deflection: The vertical deflection of the bridge shall be less than l/360, where l is the clear span in inches.

4.0 MATERIALS

4.1 Bridge structure shall be fabricated from aluminum extrusions. Extrusions shall be alloy 6061-T6 or 6005-T5.

4.2 Bridge deck shall be one of the following materials:

4.3 Fasteners shall be type 604 Stainless Steel or A325 Hot-Dipped Galvanized.

5.0 FABRICATION

5.1 Bridge structure shall be fabricated by experienced personal, including AWS Certified welders.

5.2 All members shall be cleaned and deburred before welding.

5.3 Welds: All welds shall be performed by certified welders. Structure shall be MIG welded using filler alloy 5356 welding wire.

5.4 Finished bridges shall be inspected carefully for proper dimensions and quality of finish before shipment.

6.0 OPTIONAL ACCESSORIES

6.0 Bridge structure can receive horizontal wood safety rails which run the complete length of the bridge. Vertical pickets placed 4” on center or chain link fencing may be used as alternatives.

6.1 Round aluminum handrails are available and mandatory for ADA compliance.

6.2 Optional Finish: Aluminum structure can receive a sand blasted matte finish or receive an enamel painted finish.
